David BrandEducationI went to the University of York in 1972 to study Mathematics and emerged with a B.A. (Hons) in 1975. Whilst at York, I met Gill and we married straight after leaving University. We now have a daughter, Helen. Business Career and professional Developement - Major Stages1975: I trained as an actuary and joined Pearl Assurance in London, where I began the examinations. 1979: I moved to Victory Re, now called GE Frankona, where I worked in the Actuarial Marketing department, involved in actuarial marketing and reassurance pricing for all types of reassurance business. I was pleased to complete the Actuarial exams in July 1979. 1982: I was offered a role in a direct life company called London and Manchester, as the Actuary for the Life Broker Division, responsible for pricing, product development and business planning. Also part of my brief was the placement of new reassurance, working with the reassurers from the other side! 1987: I was approached to come back to reassurance to become Appointed Actuary at the recently formed Skandia Re (UK). We decided to move back to the South East and I joined the company in May 1988. Initially, I became Appointed Actuary with the statutory role of certifying the company's solvency. I had full responsibility for the company's actuarial pricing and valuation. 1990: I became a director, responsible for the accounts and administration areas, whilst playing a full role in marketing the company's services and products throughout the UK. 1995: I was appointed Deputy Managing Director. 1998: I passed on my Appointed Actuary role and took responsibility for the Marketing Division, including the Actuarial Marketing, and, from 2000, the Underwriting area as well. 2003: I was appointed Managing Director. In 1997, it was announced that Hannover Group were purchasing the life reassurance operations of Skandia Re and we became a full subsidiary in 1998. Since then I am pleased that our UK company has flourished, almost quadrupling our premium income in the short time we have been a family member. Hobbies and SportsWhilst not working I enjoy playing tennis (to an average club standard only) and I am a keen football supporter, of Tottenham Hotspur FC, where I have a season ticket. I am also an avid reader, when I have the time. I also enjoy travel.
