Business Career and professional Development - Major Stages
1988: I started to work with Munich Re in their actuarial department. The six years with this company gave me the chance to get a good understanding of international aspects of pricing, valuation and accounting standards. Visits to their subsidiaries and branches abroad allowed me to further develop my skills. A half year stay at the Investment department was instrumental to awaken my interest in modern financial mathematics and Asset Liability Management, an area that I still regard as fascinating.
1994: On the search for a new career challenge, I joined Hannover Re. Hannover is quite close to the place I grew up, so moving from Bavaria to Hannover was easy and it didn't take too long before realising what is behind the 'somewhat different' approach of Hannover Life Re.
My department was in charge of the life business in North America, the UK and Asia, supporting our colleagues abroad in their business development, together with the challenge of servicing our direct clients, especially in the UK market.
2003: I accepted the challenge of taking over the responsibility of Managing Director of our subsidiary Hannover Life Re Africa.
2008: I left South Africa for Hong Kong in order to head our branch office as General Manager. From its base in Hong Kong the office is responsible for life reinsurance in China, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea in addition to its home market, Hong Kong.
Hobbies and Sports
I'm a keen tennis player and enjoy jogging in the evening (when I'm not feeling too lazy). I like travelling, reading, playing and listening to music and playing chess.
