Dr. Georg Pickel

I was born in January 1954 in Bolzano and I am married to Adriana, who teaches sociology at the Sacro Cuore University in Milan. We have two teenage daughters, Irene 18 and Sophia 12, both students.

Education

After I completed my degree at the Bocconi University in Milan, in 1980 I started working at Hamburger International Rueck (H.I.R.), spending the first 6 months in Hamburg.

Business Career and professional Development - Major Stages

1985: I was transferred to the H.I.R. office based in Milan, where I became head of the Italian operation, a position I occupied up until 1990. In the same year, Hannover Rueck bought the H.I.R. portfolio and some of its outlets, amongst which the Milan office.

1991: I was nominated Managing Director of the joint operation in Milan.

My background development also includes being a member of the board of directors of Unipol - from 1986 to 1990 – during which I represented HIR, being one of the major Unipol shareholders at the time.

Furthermore in 1992, following the joint venture HR/HDI/ITAS GROUP, I became a member of the board of directors of Itas Mutua, Itas Vita and Itas S.p.A. and from 1995, Deputy Chairman of the board of Itas Vita and Itas S.p.A.

Hobbies and Sports

The time available is – alas – not enough, I enjoy when I can symphonic and modern concerts. I am a great lover of mountain climbing, and enjoy skiing and trekking.
