Mathias SchröderI was born 1964 and grew up in Brunswick, a historically rather interesting and nice old mid-sized town in Lower-Saxony. Education"Unfortunately" the German military administration was not really interested in me so I could start my studies (mathematics and as a minor subject economics) directly after finishing school in 1983. 1989: I finished my studies, during which I had never heard anything related to insurance, and started my vocational career in the life insurance industry. My first actuarial job was with Hanse-Merkur Life. 1990: I changed to Magdeburger Life, Hannover. Here, I had not only a very interesting and instructive time, but I also met a nice young law student on a vacation job. The vacation job ended a long time ago, but we are still married. 1993: I started to work with the newly founded life insurance subsidiary of HDI Group, where I had the chance - and challenge - to support the build-up of the company. We were a very small team, so I was involved with nearly everything a life actuary could figure out at that time. Besides a couple of other tasks I had to handle the reinsurance of the HDI life portfolio. 1996: HDI had just expanded and reorganised its life insurance activities - I succumbed to the temptation to change from primary insurance to reinsurance and joined the Hannover Re Group - which I never regretted. 2003: I was promoted to Associate Director. Today I'm responsible for Hannover Life Re's service for the HDI life insurance companies worldwide. Hobbies and SportsWith the birth of a lovable and beautiful son in April 2002, my private life changed completely. Things we enjoyed not so long ago - such as sleeping at night, reading books and newspapers, gardening, walking and biking - are nearly forgotten. But other things have become more important - and there is nothing comparable to the smell of a new-born baby, his first smile, his clumsy tries to give a little kiss... Parents know what I mean.
