Education
I studied Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, followed by the examinations of the Faculty of Actuaries.
Business Career and professional Development - Major Stages
1988: I started my reinsurance career at NRG London as Actuarial Analyst.
1992: Following the acquisition of Victory Re, I was transferred to NRG’s home office in Amstelveen, The Netherlands, where I worked as Assistant Actuary responsible for Non-Proportional Reinsurance in UK, Australia, South America and Scandinavia. The company went through a couple of shareholding changes from Alhermij to Swiss Re.
1996: After 13 years in Europe I returned home, working at Swiss Re Kuala Lumpur as Non-Life Client Manager, responsible for Marine, Aviation and Miscellaneous Class Facultative Reinsurance. During this time I participated in the Swiss Re Management Programme in Zurich.
2000: I joined Hannover Life Re Malaysian Branch as Head of Life
2006: I was promoted to Deputy General Manager, for ASEAN and Indian Sub-Continent – responsible for 15 countries representing almost 30% of the world’s population and 2% world life premiums but growing very fast!
Hobbies and Sports
I enjoy reading as well as travelling and dining out in Asia, Europe and Africa.
Over the last few years, I have developed a passion for running half-marathons and marathons, and climbing in the Himalayas and Mount Kinabalu in Malaysia.
