Steve WillcockI was born in Victor Harbor, South Australia in 1951. The early part of my life was spent in Malaya, then Darwin, Australia until my family moved to Sydney 1964. EducationI completed my high school and university education in Sydney. Business Career and professional Developement1973: I joined Commercial Union Australia as an actuarial trainee in the Life department. Whilst working with Commercial Union I completed my Fellowship with the Institute of Actuaries (by correspondence) and rose to be Assistant Actuary responsible for pricing and valuations - which in those days meant being able to sort and collate several hundred thousand punch cards! 1984: Following the resignation of Victory's Appointed Actuary I was offered that position. The role meant moving back to Sydney (which I was pleased to do) as well as joining a team of people whom I already knew. The Victory I joined has now evolved into the Hannover Life Re of Australia, the largest life reinsurer in Australia, and a subsidiary of the Hannover Re Group. 1990: I was promoted to Managing Director of the company and particularly pleasing to me has been that despite the years and the changes of ownership, the Company continues to operate in the same enthusiastic manner as when I joined it and has retained many of the staff and clients from its previous "Victory" days. Hobbies and SportsI used to be a keen runner and completed two marathons. Nowadays I have cut back to fitness jogging and a weekly game of golf. Otherwise I tend to relax by reading, usually fiction. |
