Hannover Life Reassurance Company of America (HLR US) is a professional reinsurer of Life Insurance, Accident and Health Insurance and Annuities. Business is conducted primarily in the U.S. and Canadian markets.

HLR US invented the Block Acquisition Transaction (BAT) model now used around the world by sister companies in the Hannover Re Group. The company has concluded over two dozen of these transactions over the past six years and they are the primary reason for the extraordinary growth in premium and assets of HLR US and also the Hannover Life Re operation within the Group.

The primary market of HLR US in traditional life reinsurance consists of 250 or so small-to-medium-sized companies where the focus is more on niche products designed to appeal to different market segments and where price competition is not the driving factor.

HLR US also has a large Accident and Health operation, which includes Group Life and Special Risk business that is generated both from individual clients and as a result of BAT programs.
